Living Ecumen’s Values: Jennie Gerving, Resident Assistant

Date: Aug 23rd, 2017 12:59pm

Author: Ecumen Communications

Throughout August, Ecumen is celebrating its 10th Best Place to Work honor from the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal by recognizing employees who live our values every day.

It can be the busiest day ever, and Jennie Gerving is unfazed.  She will have a smile on her face and a positive, can-do attitude. She’s ready to take charge and help at any moment.

Jennie, who works in Home Care at Ecumen Detroit Lakes, is a shining example of someone who lives all of Ecumen’s values.

She serves others selflessly. Jennie is generous with her time and is willing to pick up additional shifts in all capacities. She has often re-arranged her personal schedule to help out a co-worker in need or an understaffed area.

She honors residents, families and co-workers by sharing her smile, enthusiasm and positive attitude with everyone she meets.  She radiates her compassion and love for her job.

She innovates by always looking for ways to do better and be better.  As part of our “Recruitment and Retention” team, she helps develop ways to enhance our employees’ experience.

She empowers both residents and staff with her ability to bring out the best in others. She is resilient and flexible and truly understands that every day is a new day for many residents. She meets them where they are.  Plus, she generously passes her skill and insight on to other employees as one of our Peer Mentors.  She takes some of our new employees under her wing and helps guide them through their orientation process and develops great working relationships that often ends up in long-lasting friendships.

Jennie truly has compassion for what she does, and it shows on the job and in her role as a mother. When not at work, she is always on the run – serving others.

Thank you for living our values every day, Jennie.  Ecumen honors you!

–Katie Lundmark, Executive Director, Ecumen Detroit Lakes

Ecumen’s core values guide our company and our employees:

SERVE: We put people at the heart of what we do.

INNOVATE: We find new ways to exceed people’s expectations.

EMPOWER: We encourage people to dream and take action.

HONOR: We treat people with dignity and respect.

Making Life Better For Gene & Sharon

July 14, 2017

All of our staff at Ecumen Detroit Lakes, especially Transitional (TCU) & Rehab Care Staff, would like to wish Gene Hill & his wife Sharon, the best of luck as Gene returns home from his short stay here at Ecumen Detroit Lakes TCU. Gene & Sharon have both asked me to thank everyone and to say, that they have been very pleased with..., the FOOD, which is the first thing Gene received when he arrived and at the top of his list of what makes a place good. A delicious hot meal. We always say that meals are the centerpiece of our day here at Ecumen Detroit Lakes. Both Gene & Sharon also commented on the wonderful care and great therapy Gene received from our staff. "It's a beautiful place, kept so clean and so nice, and really good care, and friendly, fun, well trained, empathetic and compassionate staff. We've enjoyed the staff and appreciated them for all that they have done." Staff have joked with Gene about his "orange" mustang, and laughed about the stories Gene & Sharon told about Sharon's driving. Many commented on the sweet nice and upbeat guy Gene is. And how kind and sweet Sharon is. Sharon jokes and says, "There's another side to Gene." And they all break out in laughter. Gene & Sharon are such a great couple and have a very loving supportive kids who have visited daily. Gene will return home stronger and healthier, thanks to our wonderful staff and our top notch therapy department. It is a win win for everyone. We hope we made life better for both Gene & Sharon, and there is no doubt, they made life better for us at Ecumen Detroit Lakes.

Ecumen Detroit Lakes Featured Artist

March 3, 2017
I'm an artist living in the in the city of Fargo, North Dakota, where creators shout “makers gonna make” and huddle around good coffee in the winter.

As an illustrator that focuses on visual storytelling, I make stories come alive with the use of fun characters and natural elements. I'm from a small town in north MN where lakes around every corner in trees are plentiful. I'm inspired by nature ...in my work and always seek to portray rich narrative in the stories that I Illustrate. Much of my work can be seen in children's books, novels, magazines, advertisement, and even places you wouldn't expect. My creative career keeps me on my feet, ever growing and eager to explore.
